I believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
Many children were already struggling with reading before COVID-19, and the pandemic made those learning gaps worse. I believe Camarillo can help by creating more places where children and teens can read, study, write, create, and feel connected after school.
I would like to explore practical ideas such as:
Creating book donation drop-off locations at City Hall and other public places.
Working with the Camarillo Library to bring mobile reading programs into neighborhoods, parks, and community events.
Creating comfortable outdoor reading spaces in parks with shade, seating, and books.
Supporting “Reading in the Park” events with bean bags, story time, free books, and family activities.
Exploring a mobile reading van that brings books, activities, and library resources directly to children and families.
Creating safe after-school spaces where teens can read, study, receive tutoring, and connect with mentors.
Supporting teen writing and theater programs where students can write plays, rehearse, and see their work performed.
Exploring the long-term vision of a community playhouse in Camarillo for youth performances, workshops, local theater, and arts education.
Education does not stop when the school day ends. By bringing books, mentors, creative programs, and safe learning spaces into the community, we can help children and teens build confidence, improve reading skills, and feel like they belong.
