Mental Health & Community Wellness
Building a Healthier, More Connected Community
My commitment to mental health advocacy began while helping a family member navigate serious mental health challenges. That experience gave me firsthand insight into both the strengths and challenges of our mental health system and inspired a lasting commitment to strengthening community partnerships, increasing awareness, and supporting individuals and families facing similar challenges.
Mental health touches every part of our community. It influences public safety, education, housing stability, workforce success, family well-being, and overall quality of life in Camarillo. Building a healthier community means creating opportunities for prevention, early intervention, education, and connection before people reach a crisis.
Together, we can strengthen mental wellness by:
Strengthening partnerships between the City, Ventura County, healthcare providers, schools, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations.
Supporting programs that promote mental wellness, prevention, resilience, and recovery for residents of all ages.
Increasing awareness of local mental health resources and improving access to community services.
Encouraging collaboration among public safety, healthcare, and behavioral health professionals to improve responses during mental health crises.
Promoting community spaces, programs, and activities that reduce isolation, strengthen social connections, and foster a greater sense of belonging.
My Long-Term Vision
One of my long-term goals is to bring together community partners to explore the creation of a Community Mental Wellness Center in Camarillo.
I envision a welcoming place where residents can access wellness education, support groups, family resources, peer programs, workshops, community activities, and connections to local services, all in one location. Rather than replacing existing providers, the center would serve as a community hub that helps people find resources, build relationships, and improve overall well-being.
Creating a center like this would require collaboration among the City, Ventura County, healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations, educators, businesses, and community members. While a City Council cannot build a facility alone, it can help bring people together, foster partnerships, identify opportunities, and support a shared vision for the future.
I believe investing in mental wellness is one of the most meaningful investments we can make in Camarillo. By working together, we can build a community where every resident has the opportunity to thrive, families feel supported, and no one has to face life's challenges alone.
